POWER OUTAGE: WE’LL SHUTDOWN NGC OPERATIONS IN GBARAMATU, SPOKESMAN, GBENEKAMA DECLARES

*GIVES NGC 3-DAYS ULTIMATUM TO RESTORE POWER TO AFFECTED COMMUNITIES

The people of Azama, Enikorogha, Tebujor and Opuedebubor communities under Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State have threatened shutting down operations of Nigeria Gas Company, NGC in their area, adding that if NGC does not restore power outage that have affected the communities for the past 10 months the shutting down will be no going back.

Speaking on behalf of the Four affected communities, spokesman (FIYEWEI) of GBARAMATU KINGDOM, Chief Godspwer Gbenekama, JP quipped that NGC gave generator to Azama/Enikorogha and Tebujor/Opuedebubor communities with intent of supplying diesel to power the generators but have refused supplying diesel to power the generators after 10 months despite the generators being in good conditions at the various communities.

He pointed out that NGC had assured that they will construct a gas turbine to supply electricity before the Yuletide season but could not do so, noting that the people are suffering being in darkness and subjected to pains and oppression by NGC.

The Gbaramatu spokesman (FIYEWEI) expressed dismay over the treatment given to their youths for protesting earlier, saying that the youths were almost shot at by security personnel at NGC location where pipelines repairs were being effected by NGC, according to him it could have resulted into a serious crisis if not for the prompt intervention from leaders of the Kingdom the youths had threatened to stop the repair work if the communities light was not restored by NGC.

He disclosed that the communities chairmen have written several letters to appeal to the company to do something urgent but no attention was given by their correspondences to Nigeria Gas Company, NGC hence the next looming action is to “shutdown and destabilize NGC if they do not restore light to these affected communities”. He added.

Chief Gbenekama on behalf of the communities however handed down 3-days ultimatum to NGC to restore electricity by supplying diesel to power the affected communities generators neglected by Nigeria Gas Company during the Christmas season or prepare to enjoy total shutdown of all their operations in that area.

What Mobolaji Johnson told me about Obasanjo – Tinubu

By Kazeem Ugbodaga

Former Governor of Lagos State and National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on Tuesday revealed what the late Brigadier General Mobolaji Johnson told him when former President, Olusegun Obasanjo seized the statutory allocations of Lagos State some years ago.

Obasanjo had in 2005 seized Lagos State statutory allocation because Tinubu created additional 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs.
Despite the Supreme Court ordering the then president, Obasanjo to release the allocations, he never obeyed the court’s order until the late Umaru Yar’Adua released the seized allocations in 2007.

Speaking at the Day of Tributes for Mobolaji Johnson at the Onikan Stadium on Tuesday, Tinubu said his time with Johnson was at a critical period when Obasanjo confiscated the allocations of Lagos State.
He said Johnson told him then to ignore Obasanjo and focus on re-engineering Lagos State, which he did and that it paid off.

Tinubu said: “Johnson embarked on re-engineering and assembling the best cabinet to show transparency at that time. He showed courage and strong determination for the benefit of Lagos State. His retirement was sudden following the coup in 1975. He lived a life of great contentment.

“We bid farewell to a man of great integrity. My time with him was at a critical time when I was facing another general who seized the money of Lagos State. He said governor, ignore that man and re-engineer Lagos State. I wish him eternal rest.”

Bola Tinubu extolled the virtues of Johnson, describing him as a man of integrity.
He said Johnson was a true gentleman, a servant leader and a man of incorruptible character, saying that he never used his position to amass personal wealth.
“He did not compromise in his profession. He left a good legacy in public service. He laid a durable foundation for Lagos State. He served the people and made them the cornerstone of social and economic policies.

JUST IN: TENSION MOUNTS IN NIGER DELTA AS MILITARY ANCHOR GUN BOATS AT OPOROZA CREEK

Tension mounts in Niger Delta as Nigerian military under the Nigerian Navy have allegedly laid siege at Escravos, anchoring their gun boats at the front of Oporoza creek the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West, Local Government Area, Delta state.

Our correspondent in a chat with Barr. Gideon Mulade from the Escravos River claimed that the Navy are harassing and intimidating speedboats, passengers plying the river routes and fishermen using local hand pulling canoes thereby making life uncomfortable for the people in the area.

He is however afraid that it may lead to another break down of law and order in the peaceful area, he urged the Naval authority to look into the matter, nothing that election is taking place in Bayelsa and not Delta state therefore the security agents should go to Bayelsa creeks and police that area and not Delta.

Barr. Mulade disclose that they is no election or what so ever taking place in Delta state and wondered why the military will chose to come and pose threat and tension in the minds of the people living peacefully among themselves.

While Speaking to the Spokesman (FIYEWEI) of Gbaramatu Kingdom, on a telephone chat, High Chief Godspower Gbenekama JP confirmed that the Navy at Escravos said the operation is a routine exercise not to arrest and intimidate anyone in the area, adding that they are allover the river both at Burutu axis keeping surveillance because of the Election coming up weekend in Bayelsa State.

Chief Gbenekama said the Navy commander has assured him that they were not going to enter any community to intimidate or harass anybody but will abide to their roles of engagement, he as well pleaded with the Navy Commander to tell his officers and ratings to be professional while discharging their duties in the area.

The Gbaramatu Kingdom Spokesman (FIYEWEI) was however worried when the National chairman of APC was using Tompolo’s name in their campaign, he wondered when Tompolo became a saviour of the Nigerdelta, when in a few months past he was seen as the worst human being in the Niger Delta. ”Those who used excreta to fill Noah’s canoe, are the same people that have cleaned the same canoe with their body because of leprosy”.

He pleaded with politicians to leave Tompolo alone in their bid to be relevant and acceptable to the people of the Niger Delta, Chief Gbenekama appealed to everybody in Gbaramatu kingdom go about their normal businesses without fear or molestation.

The Spokesman also urged the military to ensure that “nobody should be manhandled in any part of Gbaramatu during their operation as it concerns the Bayelsa Election as the election is not taking place in our domain. He pointed out that “Gbaramatu is peaceful because there is collaboration between the traditional institution and the military and that its important to ensure we sustain and keep this peace”.

No Bad Eggs in England Squad – Chilwell

England defender Ben Chilwell has insisted there are ‘no bad eggs in the squad’ following Monday’s training ground altercation between Raheem Sterling and Joe Gomez.

The pair clashed in a behind-closed-doors session after Liverpool’s Premier League victory over Manchester City the previous day.

As a result of the bust-up, manager Gareth Southgate opted to remove Sterling from the England squad for their Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on Thursday, and has insisted the situation has been dealt with correctly .

Like his manager, Chilwell was quick to jump to the defence of both players after the incident.

“I know Joe very well. I have known him for years. He will move on,” the Leicester City man told the media in Tuesday’s press conference.

“Obviously it wasn’t a very nice thing for him to have to come across but he dealt with it very well, straight away. He spoke in the meeting, as did Raheem. He got across what he wanted to get across.

“He is a great guy away from football and this is a great dressing room. There are no bad eggs in the squad. It is a good place to be.”
