JAMB Sets May 26 For Rescheduled Exams For Over 12,000 Candidates Mainnews.blog May 21/2018 2:13 PM

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Sunday said that it had set May 26 for a rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations for more than 12,000 candidates across the country.

The Board’s Head of Media, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

According to Benjamin, more than 12,000 candidates are expected to sit for the mop up examinations in a few of its centres across the country.

This category of candidates, he explained, are those whose biometrics were not captured during the initial period of the UTME in March.

He said: ““It would also include those who are yet to see their results since the end of the examinations in March till date and have not been involved in any form of malpractice.

“It will also include those who were unable to print out their e-slip before the earlier examinations and those whose centres were cancelled for suspected malpractices.’’

According to him, “There are centres that were cancelled because of suspicious activities but the board was unable to identify the actual culprits.

However, he said that those who were involved and caught in illicit acts and centres where a case of malpractice had been established against them would not partake in the rescheduled examinations.

He advised candidates who might have fallen into any of the categories to print their e-slips from Monday, May 21.

NAN recalls the board had earlier promised to reschedule the examinations for some candidates whose cases were exceptional, adding that candidates, who fall under such categories would be contacted before then.

CAN Have Been Accused Of Collecting N40m “Transportation Money” From Mr President

Mainnews.blog

May 21/2018 12:23 PM

The NCEF is taking CAN’s leadership to task for corruption and gross abuse of office.

CAN president, Rev. Samson Ayokunle (guardian)
The National Christian Elders Forum (NCEF) has accused the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) of collecting “transportation money” from President Mujhammadu Buhari during a visit to the Presidential Villa last year.
According to a report by Vanguard, the NCEF is taking CAN’s leadership to task for corruption and gross abuse of office, citing other issues of mismanagement by the organisation.

In a memo signed by NCEF’s Chairman, Elder Solomon Asemota, he called on CAN’s National Executive Council (NEC) to investigate alleged abuse of power on the part of CAN president, Rev. (Dr) Samson Olasupo Ayokunle.

According to the memo titled, “NCEF Protests: Is NEC of CAN Guilty of Negligence?”, the NCEF alleged that when Ayokunle led a delegation to meet President Buhari in 2017, he received ‘transportation money’ which CAN said amounts to N25 million but “informed sources” claim is actually N40 million.

While showing displeasure with how the money was shared, the NCEF also criticised the receipt of the money as “unethical and very insensitive”.

The memo partly read, “On the 10th of November, 2017, a delegation of CAN, led by the President of CAN, Rev. Dr. Ayokunle, met with President Muhammadu Buhari and, after the visit, collected ‘transportation’ money.

“While informed sources claim it was N40 million, CAN officials insist it was N25 million and it was alleged to have been shared by somebody who is not an official of the National Secretariat of CAN.

“NCEF insists on proper investigation of how the money was shared and how much each person received.

“In addition, NCEF insists on proper sanction of every Christian leader that took part in sharing money from President Buhari. It is unethical and very insensitive for Christian leaders to collect money from the man every Christian is aware has compromised security to the detriment of the Church.”

The forum further accused the CAN leadership of buying official vehicles at questionable prices as a total of N43 million was spent to purchase four second-hand vehicles in Cotonou when they were allegedly sold for cheaper prices in Nigeria. They further alleged that the auditor that presented a financial report to CAN did not include the N43 million spent on the vehicles, calling the process of procurement into further question.

The forum further alleged that there has been a tribal shift in appointments in the national offices and in the secretariat under CAN’s current leadership.

They urged NEC to immediately convene an emergency meeting to consider the issues raised in the memo and conduct an investigation of Ayokunle as well as other CAN officials accused of misconduct.

CAN president dismisses allegations
CAN President, Rev. Ayokunle, has denied the allegations of misconduct from the NCEF, saying it’s an attempt to tarnish his reputation.

He told Vanguard, “There is no truth in what they are alleging. No truth at all in all the allegations. If they are after sanity in CAN, is it on the pages of newspaper that they intend to settle any dispute? Do Muslims behave like that about their leaders?.

“You know if these people are allowed to smear my reputation on the pages of the media, they have successfully finished the Church in Nigeria. They have already written that I should be removed because they did a kangaroo investigation which did not involve me.”

Rev. Ayokunle urged the aggrieved party to allow CAN’s NEC resolve the conflict amicably without doing any public damage to the institution.

APC, AND PDP MEET IN ABUJA TODAY

Mainnews.blog

May 21/2018. 8:26 AM

ILORIN—THE national leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, and members of new Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, will meet in Abuja today in a last-ditch effort to contain agitations.

The nPDP had given President Muhammadu Buhari a week ultimatum to address perceived marginalisation or they will seek membership elsewhere.

Leader of the group, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, who disclosed this to journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday, also said the letter written to APC was to forestall the parallel congresses that trailed the party across the country, which is a reflection of the internal crisis.

Baraje said: “Let me state clearly that the crisis of parallel congresses of the party across the states was foreseen. Our letter, promptly and appropriately addressed, would have settled these problems before now.

“In the letter, we never said we gave ultimatum. But we advised them.

“The party has invited us, exactly on the seventh day of the letter. They wanted us to meet that same day, but because we were speaking for several leaders across the country, we told them we could not.

“We have scheduled a meeting for tomorrow (today), from 2p.m.”

Top-six mentality a boost to England’s World Cup hopes – Southgate

Top-six mentality a boost to England’s World Cup hopes – SouthgateGareth Southgate has emphasised the importance of his England players’ mentality heading into the World Cup.
Gareth Southgate believes the experience of players in the Premier League’s ‘big six’ will only benefit his England squad heading into the World Cup.

Eighteen of Southgate’s squad play for clubs who finished in the top six last term, with Leicester City duo Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire the only outfield players to not to do so, although Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek spent 2017-18 on loan at Crystal Palace.

And Southgate insists that the mentality of the top-six teams is a huge boost to England’s chances of progressing in the tournament.

“I think it’s big,” he said, shrugging off suggestions that his squad is raw and inexperienced.

“We are seeing that with Manchester City having a core of four English players most weeks, United having a core of English players, Liverpool the same.

“Look at the experience Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] have gained in the Champions League.

“It was the same for the Tottenham and City boys. They have been in big-match environments where they know what it takes – the commitment and mindset and hurdles to be overcome.

“They are working with top European coaches. There was always an assumption that European coaches will come here and pick foreign players.

“Pochettino has gone with an English core – that is a great message for our players. They can feed off of that, and the players they work with.”

Much of England’s hopes heading into the World Cup hinge on the form and fitness of Harry Kane, but Southgate claimed the squad has an abundance of young talent that can prove itself on the biggest stage in Russia, singling out Dele Alli as a likely candidate.

“You perform in a World Cup and that announces you to the world,” Southgate added.

“You have the chance to make history in games that really matter and that people will remember forever.

“When you look at the number of goals and assists this year, [Alli] is right up there. He is still only 22 years old, it’s nothing, and I think his numbers are ahead of where Steven Gerrard and other people were at his age.

“He is a player that should, and I am sure will, have a big impact for us this summer. He smells opportunity.”

England take on Nigeria and Costa Rica in friendlies before kicking-off their World Cup campaign against Tunisia on 18 June in Volgograd.
