JAMB announces date for 2019 registration – MainNews.Blog

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday announced that registration for 2019/ 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will commence in December.

The Head of Media of the Board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, announced this while addressing newsmen during the conduct of promotion exercise for the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), at the board’s Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre in Abuja,NAN reports.
According to Benjamin, no specific date has been fixed for the commencement of the registration yet.

He, however, said that plans were underway to do so as soon as possible as the board was initially waiting for the pronouncement of the presidency on the reduction of the examinations fee, which was formally announced on Wednesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved the downward review of the examination registration fees from N5,000 to N3,500 effective from January 2019.
The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, announced this after the meeting.

Benjamin said it was commendable what the President had done as he was someone, who had always had the interest of the masses at heart and would prove to ensure that no Nigerian was deprived of tertiary education.

” The president has overtime, expressed concern that the charges were high.
” Our consistent remittance has proven that something could actually be done and even if charges are reduced, examinations can still be conducted with no service suffering any issue of funding.

” The president has taken this bold step, we will see what happens after this reduction and if need be for further reduction, Mr President will do so in no distant time because he has concerns for the ordinary Nigerian on the streets. ”

Usman also confirmed that between November 2nd and 17th the insurgents attacked troops’ positions at Kukawa, Ngoshe, Kareto and Gajiram.

A fact-check by The Guardian showed the Adesina’s claim is untrue.

The attack has been condemned by security analysts while many Nigerians are also questioning how the $1 billion approved in April for firearms was used.

Soldiers complained about the deplorable state of their equipment in a five-minute video seen on Saturday, a soldier, while lamenting that dozens of troops had died in a recent attack, showed the burnt shells of several tanks and vehicles in the Metele base.

“See the weapons they bring here. These are not working. These are outdated vehicles, they are not working. They just keep them here for formality,” the soldier said.

President Buhari while reacting expressed deep shock on the attack and summoned the defence chiefs afterwards.

The Nigerian Senate adjourned its session last Thursday to mourn the fallen soldiers.

An Ijaw ethno-religious and socio-cultural organisation, the Order of the Egbesu brotherhood, has condemned in strong terms, the desperate attempts by some persons to acquire wealth and power through human rituals and bloodshed.

The group which is number one in the region, known for the preservation and promotion of the Ijaw culture, tradition and values, noted with dismay, that it is barbaric, for an individual or group of individuals, to use human blood as a means out of poverty.

In a statement from the founder and leader of the group, Apostle Bodmas kemepadei who also doubles as the Presiding minister son of God teaching ministry, attributed the acts to moral decadence and loss of cultural norms which he said is now being replaced with the message of prosperity and wealth by some religious leaders.

The Apostle said, the role of religion was also to curb the menace of barbarism, lawlessness and preach morality, thereby instilling discipline and simplicity, but he noted that the reverse was now the case, as he blamed some religious leaders for indirectly influencing the actions of those who are into human rituals in acquisition of wealth.

The Apostle further noted, that as part of Ijaw tradition which he said is tied around the Egbesu worship, human rituals is abominable, and carries serious consequences upon the offender.

He further called on religious leaders to preach the right messages, and advised youths both boys and girls to be discipline, stating that “the greatest wealth is contentment”.

“Ijaw people are a distinct people, our religious practices are unique, our God detests human sacrifices, i am therefore condemning this wicked act of killing our young female folks for blood money

“This is not our way, Ijaw people don’t believe in acquiring properties and ammasing wealth, we believe contentment is the greatest wealth, this was how our forebears lived peacefully amongst themselves, sharing whatever they have

“The greed we see today are products of colonisation, it is therefore pertinent that we return to our ancestral root and maintain the culture of contentment and not practising demonism in the name of westernization”, his statements added.
