A Warri based Niger-Delta born human and environmental rights peace advocate,Comrade Sheriff Mulade has cautioned politicians against engaging Youths to cause violence before, during and after election, stressing that “politics is a game and not do or die affair”.
Comrade Mulade made the call in Warri on Monday 11th this week during 2019 general election Peace Walk in Nigeria organized by Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) in collaboration with PHEW Foundation International, said Nigeria elections remain some of the most volatile in the world.
According to the Peace advocate, ” The Center for Peace and Environmental Justice is very concerned about the incessant deaths as a result of bickering, discrepancies and the unbridled desire by our politicians to win elections by all means. There is hardly any election in which Nigeria does not lose a crop of promising men and women due to electoral crises.
It therefore behoves on well meaning Nigerians to do every thing possible to fight against violence and bloodshed that characterized previous elections in the country. This is why we have taken it upon ourselves to sensitize the public as well as call on the Inspector General of Police, the military and all those charged with the responsibility to maintain peace in our land to ensure that no life is lost in this 2019 election. “
However,Comrade Mulade went further to call on all political parties to ensure peace as election is not a do or die affairs, saying election should not be taken to the extreme of losing lives and shedding the blood of any Nigerian who is higher and greater than the entire exercise. He therefore charged Nigerian Youths to avoid being used by politicians to cause violence during election,Mulade stated.
In his reaction, the representative of the Warri Area Command,S.P.Spenser Tyozua promise Nigerians especially Deltans of the police force readiness to be neutral as well as to ensure peaceful free and fair election during this weekend.
Mr.Spenser further regretted that it is quite unfortunate for the recent political killings at Jakpa junction in Warri where over five persons was killed on monday morning. He charged youths to avoid election violence, thereby cautioned parents to advice their children. The Police boss however commended Mulade for organizing the peace walk, urged him to continue the good work.
Climax of the Peace Walk was presentation of the Peace Letter to the Area Command for further dispatch to the Inspector General of Police in Abuja.
