…Says perpetuators of the criminal act must not go unpunished, Calls on International Community to Sanction Buhari Over Human Rights Abuses.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Adamu Mohammed and the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) must take full criminal responsibility for the untimely death of a Youth Corps member and Channels Television reporter, Precious Olowabi Ayo, should they fail to identify and prosecute the perpetuators of the criminal act.
Oghenesivbe, a human rights lawyer, berated the federal government and the police high command, during a live public affairs radio programme, over what he called “alarming systemic security lapses and poor intelligent gathering,” within the nation’s security architecture in the last four years of APC national government, under President Mohammadu Buhari.
He noted that the incident which led to the brutal killing of Owolabi could have been averted if the Buhari administration had obeyed court orders on the release of the Shiites leader and other political prisoners held in various prisons and detention facilities across the country.
Oghenesivbe, a member of the Human Rights and Political Communication Committee at the American Political Science Association (APSA), disclosed that the Buhari led federal government have since thrown caution to the wind on issues relating to respect for rule of law, court orders on human rights violations, political victimization, vindictive actions and inactions thereby gradually crumbling the nation’s pillars of unity and constitutional democracy.
He urged the government of the United States, Britain, France and the entire international community to sanction President Buhari and his cabal over escalated human rights violations in Nigeria, from May 29, 2015 till date.
“It is sad that our country is in a verge of total collapse, suggestive of an impending civil war as can be seen from the criminal activities of Fulani Herdsmen, Boko Haram insurgency, Shiites veesus Mayetti Alah religious power play, as well as the deliberate attempt by President Buhari to establish Ruga cattle Colonies for foreign aliens illegally domiciled in Nigeria.
“Unfortunately, the young and vibrant Owolabi was caught up in the deadly trap of death occasioned by executive rascality exhibited through several refusal to obey court orders granting bail to the Shiites leader and other political prisoners held in absolute bondage and captivity by APC national government.
“It is only fair that the IGP and FG must of a necessity bring the killers of Owolabi to book and be made to face the course of justice, otherwise the Buhari administration should be held responsible for the coded murder of a bubbling corps member and a promising news reporter and broadcaster, under Channels Television’s tutelage”
Oghenesivbe pray God to grant Owolabi eternal rest, and the family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable lost.
He commended Channels Media Group led by Dr John Momoh, for the inestimable roles it played as a responsible corporate citizen by organising service of songs and financial contributions towards the burial of the deceased, who was laid to rest at his Zaria home on Thursday 25th July, 2019.
