SPORT: Owen compares Nigerian-born forward to Ronaldo

Former Liverpool striker, Michael Owen has compared Nigerian-born and Arsenal forward, Bukayo Saka to Juventus ace, Cristiano Ronaldo, following the Gunners’ 1-0 victory over Qarabag in the Europa League encounter played on Thursday night.
Saka made his first start for Unai Emery’s side against Qarabag on the left wing and showed plenty of confidence, as he tested goalkeeper, Vagner, with an early strike from the edge of the box and tried to take on defenders.

The 17-year-old also missed a good chance to score his first Arsenal goal in the second half against the visitors.

Owen has now suggested that Saka already has similarities with Ronaldo.
“He [Saka] looked really nervous at the start of the game, myself and Martin [Keown] were both talking about it,” Owen was quoted by Metro UK as saying.
“But he certainly grew into the game. Just him having the courage to run at players was really refreshing to see.
“Some of the skill… I watched Ronaldo doing this the other day for Juventus.”
“He’s just different class and by the end of the game, his confidence was oozing.”

Saka will hope to feature for Arsenal when they tackle Southampton this weekend in the Premier League.

AWCON 2018 Final (Live Updates): Nigeria battles South Africa for another title

The top prize as far as women football is concerned in Africa is up for grabs when the Super Falcons of Nigeria and South Africa’s Bayana Bayana battle in Saturday’s Women Africa Cup of Nations final in Accra.

Nigeria and South Africa have been in the final together once – in 2000 when the South Africans hosted but the Nigerians successfully retained the trophy after a 2-0 defeat of the hosts in Johannesburg.

Nothing suggests that there would be an easy ride for either of the two teams in Saturday’s final as the South Africans have shown that they have come of age, beating Nigeria in the group opener and sealing their place at next year’s World Cup with their last win against Mali.

That said, experience is an advantage standing on the Nigerian side and it should count for something especially as the Super Falcons already know what Bayana Bayana can bring to the table.

The whole of Africa is waiting to see if the Super Falcons will extend their dominance with a ninth title in Accra on Saturday or whether Bayana Bayana will smile home with their first African title ever.

Talk about a turnaround.

Two quarters removed from starting a game with four straight incompletions for the first time in his career, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees etched his name in the NFL’s record books again — this time becoming the first quarterback to throw 30 touchdowns in 10 seasons.

Brees surpassed Peyton Manning and Brett Favre to claim the record, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

Brees’ 30th touchdown of the 2018 season came on a 30-yarder to Keith Kirkwood. The pass not only earned Brees another accolade to his seemingly endless resume, but also pulled the Saints within a field goal of the Dallas Cowboys in Thursday’s game in Arlington, Texas.

SPORTS: Why Enyeama is better than Petr Cech, Reina, Seaman. Says, Joe Cole

SPORTS: Why Enyeama is better than Petr Cech, Reina, Seaman. Says, Joe Cole

A former England, Chelsea and Liverpool star, Joe Cole has said that former Super Eagles goal minder, Vincent Enyeama is a better goalkeeper than Arsenal goalie, Petr Cech.

Cole, who recently announced his retirement from football said Enyeama is the best shot stopper he played with during his career
The former England star was speaking on his favourite five a-side team.

He reckoned the former Lille shot stopper, Enyeama, as one of the best he played with and rated his abilities more than that of former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina and his long term teammate at Chelsea Petr Cech.
Cole noted that Enyeama’s shot stopping ability was second to none and his presence ‎can guarantee a win for any team in a five a-side contest.

”I could’ve gone with Petr Cech, David Seaman, Pepe Reina but if we’re talking five a-side, this guy ( Enyeama) is the best shot stopper.

“You knew if this geezer was in your team in a five a-side, you’re winning “, he said in an interview with talkSPORTS.
Cole spent a year with Enyeama at Lille after he left Liverpool in 2011.
