Free Trade Zone : Ilaje Community Leaders Express Readiness To Cooperate With Government

Community leaders in Mahin axis of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have expressed their commitment and readiness to cooperate with the State Government to achieve its plan to establish a Free Trade Zone, Ondo-Guangdong Free Trade Zone, in their locality.

Ondo State Government has concluded arrangements for the establishment, development and management of a Free Trade Zone under a public private partnership arrangement between the State Government and ZGM Investment Group of Companies Limited.
The project is to be sited at Alape junction – Mahin, along Igbokoda/ Ugbonla -Road Ilaje Local Government of the State.

The Free Trade Zone will be a modern variation of free trade zones that will enhance the accessibility for investors and make the most use of the natural resources of Ondo State. ZGM will deploy its unique expertise to develop, build, finance and operate the zone as a joint venture with the State Government. The State Government will provide land.

The community leaders spoke in Akure at a stakeholders’ meeting facilitated by Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency, ONDIPA, on Monday, 26th November, 2018.

Prince Elias Matiminu, who represented the Aganganjigan Omobuwa royal family, expressed optimism that Governor Akeredolu has not deviated from his plan to unearth the wealth of the State buried in the belly of the sea.
He said the community would be willing to cooperate with the State Government the moment it knew know the size of land required.

Prince (Dr) Omowole Wumi, Head of Omowole Amapetu of Mahin Kindom and representative of Ugboro /Jadigba, Mr Ogunbayo Kayode, spoke in like manners. The Yasere of Mahin, High Chief, Ogunbayo Japhet, thanked the Government for the initiative.

Speaking earlier, the Group Managing Director of ZGM Investment, Dr. Abbey Onas highlighted the numerous benefits inherent in the location of the Free Trade Zone in the State which he said included employment, crime reduction and corporate social responsibility to the communities.
