IPDI CONDEMNS MILITARY SIEGE IN GBARAMATU KINGDOM, ACCUSES BUHARI OF DISTORTING THE EXISTING PEACE IN NIGER DELTA

We were inaudated with distress calls, at 20th January, 2019 over unprovoked military siege and intimidation at residents of Gbaramatu kingdom, precisely Oporoza community, the head quarter of Gbaramatu kingdom.

We were briefed that the community was sieged with heavy gun boats and a military helicopter hoving around for several hours, causing panic and furiousity among law_abiding locals.

We strongly condemned the use of brute forces by Nigerian government on its citizenry. There was no any incident in the area in recent times to provoke military onslaught on the kingdom. This is an act of terrorism by the military. It is bad that the military do not see sanctity in the lives of aborigines of Niger Delta region.

We want to state unequivocally that Tompolo has No case to answer, and that the military should stop intimidating him. Tompolo is the apple of Niger Deltan’s eyes and that all accusations against him is baseless and unfounded.

This is provocative as it was meant to cow Tompolo and Niger Delta region to support Buhari re_election bid. We are disappointed. These unwarranted intimidations are capable of distorting the existing fragile peace in the region.

We will not condone it, it must stop. We will no longer accept any undue intimidation from any quarter against the people of Gbaramatu kingdom. The military should tread with causion and avoid heating up the polity.

Signed

Comrade Ozobo Austin

National president Ijaw Peoples development Initiative, IPDI.

Comrade Daniel Ezekiel, national spokesman, IPDI.
